About the Author

Kimber Dream now lives in Asheville, NC but she grew up on the coast near the Outer Banks. She has always been interested in legends and folktales, and grew up hearing stories about The Lost Colony, Virginia Dare, The Dismal Swamp Witch, and the Natives who lived on the land before the colonists came. Those legends served as the inspiration for this series.

In 2009, with the encouragement of some friends, she submitted a “you pick what happens” story called “Save the Fair Maiden” to a contest. To her surprise, it was picked for publication by a small press along with an offer to publish the two sequel books.

She had absolutely no clue what she was doing at that point but she discovered a love of storytelling. Determined to at least get a few clues on how to write a good story, she took online classes at The Institute of Children’s Literature, UCLA, and Stanford. She has been published under her legal name (Kimber Krochmal) in several anthologies including five Chicken Soup for the Soul books. She’s using Kimber Dream as a pen name because no one EVER spells “Krochmal” correctly. She struggled with it herself when she first started dating her husband.
